A Moment

...Just got home from an exhausting day at work and had an inspiring list of e-mails from BelleSorelle. I can't wait to meet all of you at the meeting on Thursday! See you then, and thank you everyone for reminding me of what REALLY matters at the end of the work day!

Biker Questions

Hi Sara (and anyone who may know...)
My husband, Trevor, is going to bike with the runners during the night. Did you have a biker last year? Did they ride in the van with you? We don't understand the logistics. If he drives himself, at the end of the night, he will be very far away from the car. Let us know if you know anything. If not, we can have Treana find out at the meeting.

THANKS!

Anyone Running on Memorial Day?!

Hi ladies!

I'd love to meet up and run tomorrow morning or afternoon or evening if anyone has anything planned. Any distance any time any speed (except fast) hills no hills...

You Tube, Schmoo Tube

Hi everyone - I'm so glad to be running this race with you and can't wait to meet you all! Joining your team has given me more motivation in my running schedule - especially the two-per-day part.

I also wanted to chime in about the You Tube videos (even though I can't actually watch them right now because the Forest Service blocks youtube). I ran this race last year and was initially intimidated by the sheer number of teams/people, but once it got started it was tons of fun. Most teams were really friendly, and some wore hilarious costumes. The only hectic part was that some of the narrow dirt roads (e.g., Avon Pass) were REALLY crowded and dusty... though it sounds like they're trying to cut back on crowding by stretching out the start times. If it's hot that weekend I'll bring my little spray bottle so we can help each other stay cool too.

See you soon!
- Sara

Start Time

I just looked on the Ragnar site and it looks like they've got start times assigned. If I'm reading it correctly, we are team #369 and our start time is 12:40 pm. It also says that registration for next year is expected to fill up fast. Do we want to already start looking for a sponsor for next year? The videos on Youtube freaked me out a little bit, I must admit! Happy running,

An interesting twist

I found out some news this week that may effect my running. I'm pregnant. Pretty cool ... I'm way excited ... but, the timing wasn't quite what we'd hoped for. I'm about 6 weeks along now, which means I'll be 11 weeks at the time of the race.
I don't feel sick at all, and assuming this pregnancy is like my first one that should continue. The only concern that I have is getting overheated. I've done my research, and that's the main concern that doctors have ... if i'm overheated, so is the baby. I'd still really, really like to do the run but I guess I'm just looking for a little confirmation here. I need to know that if I'm overly tired, hot, etc. someone from the team could finish my leg. What do you all think?
Honestly, I'm not too worried - my daily runs right now are about 6.5 miles and each of my legs are 4 miles with minimal elevation gain. Doesn't seem too daunting.
One other thing, for you ladies I work with - I'd like to keep this quiet for awhile.

Disneyland Half

Ladies, I just registered for the Disneyland Half Marathon that will be held over Labor Day weekend. (This is the only way I can get my husband to take a vacation somewhere other than Moab.) I'd love some company, but it's at 75% capacity so register soon! They also have shorter family and kid's races. And speaking of Moab, a few of us have discussed registering for the "Other Half" that will be in Moab somewhere around October 19. That's UEA weekend, so it could be a fun family trip!

Power of the Sun

Today, I ran 5 miles at mid-day (I wish I could say it was purposeful training, but really, it came down to poor planning and dragging my feet to get out the door--a luxury of being childless). This is the first truly warm day we've had this season, and I was quickly reminded of how the sun really zaps it out of me! Luckily, I had enough foresight to carry a bottle of mix with me, or I would be spending the rest of today in the crapper with a headache to boot. Nonetheless, I'm SUPER excited to do the race! And I can't wait to meet all of you in person.

Word of Advice: Do at least 2 runs mid-day to know how your body reacts to the sun and know how to hydrate under those conditions. Dehydration doesn't feel good when you are stuck in a Suburban with 5 other sweaty people!

Perfect Panties

Just a little note on my panty question. A billion thanks to Donna for the suggestion of the patagonia undies on sale at REI. They are GREAT! I thought about thongs and going commando but I just couldn't do it, too many phsycho hangups.

On a more serious note. We still need a 12th runner to replace Sharon. Do any of you have thoughts on friends or family that could and would run with us? Let me know ASAP so we can get that taken care of.

Hollow Road Revised

I think I'll actually do Hollow Road on Sunday morning instead. I've decided to go run the Health Days mile with my 10-year-old on Saturday morning. They also have a 5k or 10k that are pretty challenging, if anyone's up for it. If you go to smithfieldcity.org there's a link to Health Days activities from the Parks and Recreation button. If anyone wants to do Hollow Road Sunday morning, get back to me!

Hollow Road

Good morning! I'm thinking ahead to the weekend (and to the race) and am planning to run up and back down Hollow Road Saturday morning. My son has soccer at 9:00, so I thought I'd go around 7:00. If anyone wants to meet me there, I'd love some company!

Surprise for me!

I ran 6 miles this morning and felt good. It's the farthest I've ran this year, so I was feeling pretty good about myself. That is until I got on the wasatch back website and double checked the mileage and the elevation gain/loss for my legs. My 3rd leg has been changed! It used to be only 3.7 miles but now it is 6.9 miles!!!! I checked the map and everything to make sure it wasn't a mistake..... and nope. So now I am really glad I ran 6 miles this morning and need to do some serious intense training. So you all might want to double check your legs and see what has changed. I am so glad I did.

Erin
Girlfriends!! I kicked the BIG HILL's buttocks today!! I didn't stop and I managed to average about a 9 min. mile. It feels so good to accomplish big tasks. I LOVE RUNNING!!

Vegas is the Other Direction

My Belle Sorelle's , I would like you all to weigh in on this one: Today on my run--actually in the final mile of my run--I see an older gentleman carrying a bag of groceries wearing designer sunglasses and a Mr. Roger's sweater walking toward me. Right as I pass him, he says, "Vegas is the other direction!"

What does this mean??? I'm sure he meant it as nothing more than a funny comment, but when I'm running, all kinds of strange thoughts run through my head. Most immediately, I thought it was a reference to "luck", but then I thought maybe he thinks my running clothes are too tight, and I should be a show girl? I wasn't wearing my headdress or pasties today, so I don't really think that's it. What do all of you think?

This is soo fun to be able to communicate this way. I still haven't gotten into texting yet, so this is very high tech for me.
I love this spring running. It is the only time of year when I don't get too hot. I find that if I layer, I can strip down a little at a time as my body heats up. I stop stripping at my running t-shirt and usually capris. I have had to do my cold weather pants a couple of times the past 2 weeks.
I can't run in the afternoon with you all tomorrow, Saturday May 3rd, so I went out this afternoon at 4:00. I found that it may be benificial to not eat a Taco Time crunch wrap at 1:30 on the day I am running in the afternoon. It doesn't taste so good the second time around!
It was a little warm but a breeze seemed to blow by me at just the right time. I know we can all do the 2-runs-a-day thing, get some good music or good friends and just run!
In answer to Tiffany's question about sun exposure on race day, I'm not sure. I have several friends who have done this race before, so I will tap their brains and see what kind of info I can get for our team. I also have a meeting in SLC on June 12th for team captains and can take any unanswered questions.
I have a question about running gear for you all. I like running in capris and have not found any panties that don't do the creapy crawly thing when I run. Do any of you have suggestions?

Post Away Team!

Hi everyone!

Feel free to post anything using the log-in ID and password that Treena sent via email. At the top right of the page, click sign-in and enter the information. Also, feel free to post comments using the email and password. I am really excited that this blog is working and am looking forward to running with some of the team this weekend!

It looks like we will all have to train in the snow this May or run on a tread mill (like Sharon and Tiffany did for the Moab Half Marathon in March...GREAT JOB, by the way). I am new to Utah and just LOVE the weather, what a beautiful blizzard we had today. I might move back to Wisconsin, where it is warm. I've never said that before.

Let's start brainstorming van decorating ideas. My idea was shot down...anyone else have any ideas? I still want to work in the logo...NO RUNNER LEFT BEHIND...

Posting for All?

Thank you Donna for setting up this blog. From Treana's e-mail I took this to mean that we could all post our training drama--please let me know if I've grossly overstepped my boundaries, and I'll keep my postings on this site to comments.

So...for the drama: SNOW in Salt Lake City on April 30! I'm a fair weather runner all the way, so if any of you have tips or a kick in the butt to help me get motivated, please post it here ASAP. Also, have any of you done this before, and if so, what kind of sun exposure can we expect during the day runs?

Thanks for advice and info. I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you via the blog...so get busy with that!

Seven Weeks to Race Day!

Welcome to belle sorelle. How is your training going?
